Introducing, The Young Horse Rider's Guide to Understanding Riding Nerves.

✓ 6-page printable PDF + audio for young riders

✓ Created by professional horse trainer, coach and author Diana (Dee) Jamieson

Does your young rider love horses... but sometimes struggle with nerves in the saddle?

Maybe it's butterflies before a riding lesson.

Maybe cantering, jumping or trying something new suddenly feels like a much bigger deal.

Maybe a fall or fright has knocked their confidence.

Or perhaps those pesky “What Ifs” sometimes take over, but you're not sure how to help them.

Riding confidence doesn't always travel in a nice straight line — and feeling nervous doesn't mean you're suddenly a bad rider or that all those riding skills have disappeared.

Sometimes, simply understanding WHY those nerves are happening is a great place to start.

Inside this free guide you'll discover...

  • “Why Do I Get Nervous Riding?” Audio for Young Riders. Join Dee for a reassuring Confidence Chat explaining why riding nerves happen, what those butterflies really mean, why confidence can sometimes wobble and why feeling nervous doesn't mean you're not a good rider.
  • Let's Talk About Riding Nerves. A simple post-audio activity helping young riders recognize how nerves can show up in their own thoughts and body, and identify something useful they want to remember.
  • My Riding Confidence Story. An opportunity to look back at their riding journey, recognize how far they've already come and reflect on experiences that have helped their confidence grow.
  • My Riding Confidence Check-In. A practical reflection activity helping riders identify what makes their confidence wobble, separate what they KNOW from their “WHAT IFS”, and think about where they'd love their confidence to grow next.

Created with heart

Hi, I'm Dee.

I've spent most of my life working professionally with horses as a trainer, breeder and coach, but I certainly wasn't always a confident young rider!

Over the years I've learned a great deal about how riding confidence works, both through my own experiences and through helping riders of all ages develop their skills and self-belief.

I created this little guide to help young riders understand that feeling nervous sometimes is a normal part of riding, and that confidence is something that can change, grow and strengthen.

Perfect for...

• Young riders aged approximately 9–13+

• Pony Club members

• Riding school students

• Young horse owners and lease riders

• Riders whose confidence has taken a wobble

• Young riders returning after a fall, fright or break from riding

• Parents looking for a positive, reassuring resource to support their young rider

Very helpful guide

My daughter struggles with nerves after a fall from her pony a few months ago. Hearing this calm and practical advice from someone else (that's not her mother!) has been very good for her already and taught me a few things too. Thanks for sharing your kind and knowledgeable wisdom Dee. Keep it up.
